Dr. Nasim Akhtar Ansari earned his Ph.D from Jiwaji University, Gwalior & National Institute of Pathology (ICMR), New Delhi in the area of Immunology and Diagnostics related to Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) or Kala azar (KA) and Post kala azar dermal leishmaniasis in 2007. After completing his Ph.D., he moved to the National Institute of Health (NIH, USA) and pursued immunological studies on human VL. His postdoctoral work results in identification of two cytokines, IL-27 and IL-21, as being highly elevated in active VL patients and also demonstrated for the first time in a human infectious disease setting that IL-21 can amplify the antigen specific IL-10 response in peripheral blood cells from KA patients. Subsequently, Dr. Ansari joined ICGEB-Emory vaccine center as research scientist and worked on vaccine research related to Dengue and Chikungunia. Later, Dr. Ansari joined Jazan University as Assistant Professor at the Medical Research Center. Before joining SGT University, Dr. Ansari was engaged as Scientist-II at All India Institute Medical Science, New Delhi. Presently at SGT University, Dr. Ansari is engaged in teaching and research. His research focuses on understanding immune mechanisms underlying progression or clearance of parasitic and viral disease (Leishmania and dengue). Overall, Dr. Ansari has excellent training in the area of biomedical sciences, and he has published several research papers in various journals of high international repute.
