Elective Observership Program for the Students from Manipal University College, Malaysia

Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology hosted 6 students from Manipal University College, Malaysia for Elective Observership Program from 19-03-2023 to 27-03-2023. They were given an enriched exposure to variety of clinical cases such as orofacial infections, Oral Leukoplakia, Oral Submucous Fibrosis, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Cervical Lymphadenopathy and to procedures like PRP Therapy, Intralesional Steroid Injections and FNAC. Students were given exposure to the surgical management of orofacial cleft and maxillofacial trauma, surgical management of radicular cyst, osteoradionecrosis, zygomatic fracture through live surgical transmission.

Students also visited all the departments of faculty of dental sciences and the departments of Dermatology, ENT and General Radiology for expsoure to mucocutaneous lesions, ENT cases and head and neck cancers interpretation by CT. The interdepartmental interactions were thoroughly enjoyed by the students and included a lot of interactions with the faculty and Postgraduate students. In order to give exposure about the comprehensive management of Oral Cancer, A field visit to American Oncology Institute was organized wherein students were given exposure about the radiotherapeutic management of Oral Cancers. Also, a visit to National Reference Simulation Centre was organized for the students. A workshop on Lasers in Oral medicine and guest lecture on “Management of Oral Lesions- An Ayurvedic Perspective” was organized for the students.

The valedictory ceremony for the students was organized on 27th March 2023. Students were also presented with a University memento, Certificates of completion of Elective Observership programe and also presented with the certificates for their participation in the workshops and sessions conducted by the department during their 9 days of stay. Overall, the entire program was a grand success with enormous good memories for the students as well as the Department. We hope to host and train many more students in the near future.
