Dr. Ejaz Hussain

Prof. M. Ejaz Hussain has joined SGT University as Professor & Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS) with additional charge as Dean, Faculty of Physiotherapy. Prior to this, he was at Jamia Millia Islamia (Central University) as Professor/Director, Centre for Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences and also as Honorary Director, DDU Kaushal Kendra. Prof Hussain joined JMI in 1994 and served in the Department of Biosciences as Assistant/Associate Professor. He established the Centre for Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences there as founder Prof./Director (2008-2020). He initiated the Bachelor in Physiotherapy, Masters in Physiotherapy & Ph.D. program and is credited with producing more than 600 highly trained Physiotherapists who are well-settled and earning their livelihood in India and abroad. He initiated skill development courses under the Skill India program under support from UGC and established DDU kaushal Kendra and started B.Voc. Medical Laboratory Sciences and B. Voc. Medical Electrophysiology. Besides this, Prof Hussain took the initiative in establishing the Centre for Early Childhood Development & Research with the help of “Save the Children” U.K.
Prof. Hussain obtained his M.Phil and Ph.D from School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and New Delhi in the area of Neurosciences. His area of research was focused on investigating electrophysiological recording of sensory impulses in response to chemical stimuli. Immediately after his Ph.D, he was awarded an international postdoctoral fellowship at the UNDP research Institute in Nairobi, Kenya (1985-87). On his return, Prof. Hussain worked at Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, Department of Physiology, Delhi University (1988-94) as CSIR Pool Scientist & Research Associate, where he was involved in studying cardiovascular, hemodynamic and stretch reflexes in the mammalian system.
Prof Hussain also had the privilege of working at one of the best medical schools in the USA at Case Western Reserve University, in the Department of Molecular Cardiology, Cleveland, Ohio, USA during 2004-05. He investigated the molecular basis of congenital heart diseases and the role of programmed cell death (Apoptosis).
Prof. Hussain has supervised 30 Ph.D. research and many major research projects funded by DST, UGC & CCRUM, Govt. of India. He has published 120 research papers in international and national journals of repute. He has more than 1800 citations, with H-index-21, i10 index-31. He has presented his research work at many international/national conferences.
In addition to these, he held many senior-level administrative positions and was a member of many academic and executive bodies like executive council, academic council, research committee, establishment committee, institutional ethical committee, and Head of recruitment cell (FIDC) at Jamia Millia Islamia. He has been a Ph.D. examiner at many universities (JNU, DU, AIIMS, Hamdard, AMU, Patna University, Agra University, etc.), and a member of various committees at UGC, DRDO, SAI, IPH.
