Assessment Camp for Screening and Identifying Specific Conditions in Children with Special Needs

Department of Special Education, Faculty of Education in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, under the aegis of UDAAN (Best practice initiative of the Department of Special Education), organized an Assessment Camp for Screening and Identifying Specific Conditions in Children with Special Needs on the 16th and 17th May 2024. It was an intensive and immersive program designed to foster innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among students and educators. The primary objective of this camp was to provide participants with hands-on experience, practical skills, and a mindset geared toward innovation and entrepreneurship.
The camp witnessed the participation of 50 children with special needs along with their parents came from different villages that were visited through a series of community outreach programs aimed at connecting village people, including Baslambi, Kheda Khurampur, Gadoli Khurd, Mundakhera, Sultanpur, and Farukhnagar Special School. Children from Literacy India Mission also attended the camp to identify their learning problems. The platform equipped educators with the necessary diagnostic tools, and student-teacher trainees learned to screen and identify specific conditions in children with special needs. These efforts facilitated the exchange of ideas, best practices, and collaboration opportunities among educators from different institutions, community stakeholders, village people etc.
Impact :
Assessment camp fostered enhanced skills and mindsets, students participants gained practical skills and an entrepreneurial mindset that will be an addon to their academic and professional pursuits. The camp improved the ability of participants to identify and address specific conditions in children with special needs, leading to better support and intervention strategies. The camp is being organized under the expert convenorship of Prof. (Dr.) Madhavi Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Education. Mr. Parveen Kumar Jat, Community Outreach Coordinator, proactively connected and maintained liaison with village people, resulting in the visit of 50 children with special needs. Mr. Abhra Mukhopadhyay and Mr. Chandan Kumar Dubey, Asst. Profs, Faculty of Education, and IIC Faculty coordinator crafted the objective of camp towards entrepreneurship and start-up development. Dr. Neha Sharma, Mr. Ravinder Saini, Dr. Manita Devi, Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Ms. Poonam Talwar, Mr. Awadhesh, Mr. Kishan Lal Bairwa, Dr. Sarfaraz Equbal, Ms. Priyanka Yadav, Mr. Shravan Kumar and all other non-teaching staff helped supported the program towards a grand success.
